94g/km of CO2 Volvo V40 D2 from 19,745

Write a Review about the Volvo v40

Volvo Car UK has announced the pricing for its all-new premium five-door, five-seat hatchback, the Volvo V40, which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show last month.

Starting at just 19,745 on the road, the all-new Volvo V40 enters the premium hatchback segment with a class-leading set of innovative high-tech features. Volvo's first new model to be fully developed according to its human-centric, Designed Around You strategy, the car is the first in the world to feature a pedestrian airbag, an innovation which helps reduce the severity of pedestrian injuries in the event of an impact.  The all-new V40 is also the only model in its class to fit City Safety as standard and offer Pedestrian Detection, effective at speeds of up to 22mph.

Company car users will benefit from strong Benefit In Kind (BIK) figures, with the V40 D2 at 43 and 85 for 20% and 40% tax payers respectively.  The V40 D2 offers the best BIK figures of all the premium 5-door hatchbacks, beating the BMW 116d ED (45 and 90) and the Audi A3 1.6 TDI (48 and 97).

The luxury hatchback will be available in ES, SE and SE LUX trim with Bluetooth fitted as standard across the range. Customers are able to place orders now with production starting in May.  Volvo expects the first customer cars to be delivered in September.

With CO2 emissions as low as 94 g/km, the D2 version of the Volvo V40 boasts a combined fuel consumption of 78.5 mpg. Its 1.6-litre diesel engine has 115 hp and 285 Nm of torque and comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and start/stop function. This means V40 drivers will benefit from improved running costs and the lowest vehicle tax bands (starting at 0 and subsequent years' vehicle tax of 0).

DRIVe Towards Zero

Volvo Car Corporation has taken the next step towards its DRIVe Towards Zero strategy by making further improvements to its diesel engine line-up, reinforcing its European leadership in fuel efficiency improvement by new CO2 initiatives. From model year 2013, almost all diesel-powered versions of the Volvo S60, V60, V70 and S80 will have CO2 emissions below 120 g/km.

In combination with the engine refinements for model year 2013, Volvo has also upgraded its infotainment system, SENSUS, in-line with the all-new Volvo V40.  This enables Volvo to offer new technology to its customers by being able to specify Road Sign Information, Active High Beam and Tunnel Detection.

The new CO2 figures (EU Combined) for manual versions of the Volvo S60, V60, V70 and S80 demonstrate Volvo Car Corporation's leading strength when it comes to fuel efficiency.

Model/Engine D2 (115 hp)  D3 (136 hp) D4 (163 hp)  D5 (215 hp)
S60  114 g  114 g 114 g 119 g
V60 119 g 119 g 119 g  120 g
V70 119 g   119 g 119 g  126 g
S80 119 g 114 g  114 g  120 g

The D2 engine combined with automatic Powershift gearbox comes with the same low fuel consumption and CO2 levels as the manual versions in the Volvo S60, V60, V70 and S80.

Importantly, the DRIVe symbol, which has been used to denote the lowest CO2 emitting engine in each of the models, will be re-named Drive-E and at the same time offer a more strategic approach and have a broader scope.

"From now on the DRIVe symbol will not be used for denominating specific car models since we extend Drive-E to embrace all Volvo Car Corporation's sustainability efforts, from production to recycling," explains Peter Mertens.

New D3 diesel engine with 136 hp

Volvo Car Corporation has extended the diesel engine offer with a new entry-level 5-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel in the Volvo S60, V60, V70 and S80 models.

The engine, which has an output of 136 hp and maximum torque at 350 Nm, will be badged D3. The engine is available both with a manual and an automatic gearbox.

The current D3 (163hp) diesel engine will be re-named the D4 in order to make way for this new engine in the line-up for all the larger cars.

This new diesel engine enables Volvo to now offer a D2 with 115 hp, the D3 with 136hp, the D4 with 163 hp and the D5 with 215 hp.

New driver support systems

The Volvo S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 are now equipped with the new SENSUS and can be ordered with Road Sign Information, Active High beam and Tunnel Detection.

  • Road Sign Information supports the driver by displaying road signs in the instrument cluster.
  • The new Active High Beam technology offers automatic switching between high and low beam at the right moment.
  • Tunnel Detection automatically turns on the headlights when the car enters a tunnel.

All models fitted with an automatic gearbox will come with the new illuminated gearshift knob, recently introduced in the all-new Volvo V40. The gearshift knob is transparent and LED-illuminated from inside. The pattern is reflected to create an exclusive 3D illusion.

Other model year 2013 news

  • A new 5-spoke forged, 18-inch aluminium wheel is available for the Volvo S60, V60, V70 and S80.
  • The 11-spoke, 17-inch Saga wheel for the Volvo V70 and S80 is updated with black contrast paint on the diamond-cut areas.
  • The Volvo V70 gets an updated grille with glossy black details.

The model year 2013 versions of the Volvo S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 will be available to order during April with production starting May 2012.
